WATERFALLS

Waterfalls in Kerala

Let’s get one thing clear, Kerala is a paradise and I in my current state of mind have no plans to leave this place without complete exploration. One thing other than the culture and traditions of the place that catches the eye and soul, is ‘waterfall’. Not just one but Kerala is home to several beautiful waterfalls scattered in different regions of the blessed state.

Here are some of the worthy mentions:

Adyanpara Waterfalls in Malappuram

This is located in the village of Kurumbalangode in the Malappuram district. Other than the waterfall, Adyanpara is famous for its lush green jungle. From Nilambur, the waterfall is about 15 Km far. The nearest railway station is Nilambur and the airport is Calicut International Airport.

Aruvikkuzhi Waterfalls, Kottayam

Aruvikkuzhi is actually a scenic picnic spot, which many a times is seen in movies as well. Feast for the eyes is the Aruvikkuzhi waterfalls with steams flowing throughout the area creating an atmosphere one cannot imagine. On top of the waterfall, you will find ‘St. Mary’s Church’ as well. The nearest railway station is Kottayam and the airport is Cochin International Airport.

Athirappalli and Vazhachal Waterfalls, Thrissur

In the upper reaches of the Western Ghats, the Chalakudy river is home to Athirappalli and Vazhachal Waterfalls. The forest in this location also houses some of the rare class of floras and faunas. The nearest railway station is Chalakudy and the airport is Cochin International Airport.

Attukad waterfalls, Munnar

Panoramic is the word that describes ‘Attukad Waterfalls’, which is located between Munnar and Pallivasal in the district of Idukki. Ideal for long treks, the place is the place to be if you’re in Kerala.
The nearest railway station is Aluva and the airport is Cochin International Airport.

Cheeyappara and Valara waterfalls, Idukki

About 10 Km from Kochi, through the Madurai Highway, is the Cheeyappara and Valara waterfalls, which is between Neriamangalam and Adimali. The nearest railway station is Angamali and the airport is Cochin International Airport.

Chethalayam Falls, Wayanad

Now this may be one of the lesser known waterfalls out here in Kerala but that does not take anything away from it beauty. Trekking enthusiasts will surely love this place even-if it gets a bit hot as well. The nearest railway station is Kozhikode and the airport is Calicut International Airport.

Dhoni in Palakkad

Another good picnic spot if you’re here with your family and plus, you get a waterfall to enjoy. Even the reserve forest area is nearby to grab a peek. The nearest railway station is Palakkad and the airport is Coimbatore International Airport.
