The beautiful land of Kerala is popular for the right reasons but there are some historical artefacts as well, which makes the place exciting. Travelers from all over the globe come here to enjoy scenic beauty of the place and also the historical monuments that date back to the colonial eras. Colonial invasion has left a lot here that still holds an important position in the medieval history of Kerala. Although there are many heritage sites in Kerala, I will cover some of the popular ones for the benefit of readers:
The largest fort in Kerala, this site is located in the district of Kasaragod. Apart from the fascinating surroundings, the best part that I found here are the presence of a Hanuman temple and a Mosque at the entrance. The nearest train stations here are Pallikkara, Kasaragod and Kanjangad railway stations.
Hill Palace Museum
This is the largest museum in Kerala that compiles ancient paintings, craft works, epigraphy samples that belong to the Kochi royal family. The murals and relics belonging to the royal family leaves you astounded with a medieval aura, which is very hard to imagine for a city dweller.
Jewish synagogue or Paradesi synagogue
As covered in my previous write-up, the Paradesi Synagogue is an ancient
place that happens to be more than hundred years old when it comes to legacy
and it houses several rare antiques. This prestigious work of ancient art is
what glorifies the mystique charm of ‘Mattancherry’. As per the information I
got from Kerala Private Tour experts, this Jewish heritage was built in the
year 1568, as a result of the Jewish connection that was growing with India,
especially Kerala. This flawless place was built adjacent to the Mattancherry
Palace, on the land given by erstwhile king of Cochin.
Padmanabhapuram Palace
This 18th century structure invites attention in the form of
amazed visitors as well as spell-bounded archeologists as well. Must see stuffs
here include the floral paintings, floor carving, murals and underground
passages. This palace is all about ancient wealth and riches of the ancient
kingdom and royal families. Visitors can see the insides without footwear. The nearest
railways station is Nagarcoil – Tamil Nadu, whereas the airports are Thiruvananthapuram
International Airport.
