Uravapara Subramaniaswamy Temple is a temple located at Olamatam in Thodupuzha Taluk of Idukki District, Kerala within Thodupuzha Municipality limits. The main deity here is Balasubramanian. The temple is situated on top of a huge rock at a height of 500 meters from the ground level reminiscent of Palani. Legend has it that the Pandavas came here during their exile and built a temple at night for prayer.Since he had to leave before dawn, he built walls with granite layers without a door and performed the ritual. Balamurugan, the main deity, stands on a rock on the ground.
Behind the temple are three large boulders believed to be the hearths used by the Pancha Pandavas. Nearby are a few huge boulders believed to be Chena. Behind the temple is the tirtha made of Bhimasena’s legs.
Uravapara, a Malayalam ancient town, is located on the Idukki road at a distance of 2.5 KM from the town. The top of the rock can be reached on foot or by vehicle. At the top of the rock, you can see the temple of Murugan, the view point with a feast for the eyes, the pool with the giant’s feet, the hearth of the Panchapandas, and a large water tank.
This is also a place where you can clearly see the sunset in the evenings. If you stand on top of the rock, you can enjoy all the beauty of Thodupuzha and Moolamattom. The festival here is Taipuya Mahotsavam. Many devotees come to climb the rock during the festival. The environment here is completely natural.. the cool breeze and the greenery of the valley will surely give us a good energy.
